Nice article - thanks. Have been running a pre-v24 ver of dd-wrt on my v1.1 WRT54G since forever ('06), and now want to switch to something more current, as I finally got a cable hookup nlast week. Seems to be a lot of confusion about appropriate versions of dd-wrt, with reports of the router database pointing to bad versions, so have decided to move to Tomato.

Just curious about your comment about not keeping up with the firmware anymore. Moved to a different router platform?

Edgar,

I haven't kept up with Tomato or DD-WRT much lately. I highly recommend securely configuring your router. Have you looked into OpenWrt as an alternative firmware? It's should be more powerful and faster than both Tomato and DD-WRT. The catch is that it may be more difficult to use.

Thanks,

Matt

Thanks for the post. Very useful indeed.

No news on Tomato for WRT54GS ver 5+? I have a version 6 running DD-WRT, but performance trying to use non-default options (basic security and sometimes even the changing the SSID) is really a mess, so have been holding to the plain insecure platform for years now. Any advice on what better options I have to deal with my current issue? Glad to provide more details if needed. Have been reading forums for days, and I am desperately looking for real answers now. Thanks!

Given DD-WRT's non-compliance with the GNU GPL, I decided to move my Linksys routers to Tomato. This guide made the process easy. Thank you.

Hey Rsarmiento,

Great! I'm glad Tomato fixed your problems. The interface is a drastic change. I love the bandwidth graphs. I don't need QOS but Tomato's QOS is supposed to better than DD-WRTs and also produce some cool graphsy.

Thanks for the update.
