Spring Cleaning - Geek Style
Last weekend I decided it was time to do some spring cleaning. However, my idea of spring cleaning wasn’t typical. I decided to crack open the case of my Dell Desktop computer to get rid of all the dust that I was certain had gathered in it over time.
The main reason I decided to take the time to unhook my computer and carry it outside to clean it is that I hoped the cleaning process would help the PC run a little better. Why would I think cleaning would help? Well, I cool computer works better and lots of dust likely prevents good cooling by clogging up fans and trapping heat. At least that is what I think. I have absolutely no proof of my hypothesis.
Cleaning was super easy. I just used compressed air and sprayed like crazy :). I did use a damp paper towel to wipe the case down but was careful not to touch in electronics. My last tip is just to remind you to ground yourself to help prevent a static discharge from frying your computer. If you would like more detailed info on how to clean a computer check out this article from Lifehacker. Please note that I did not follow their directions but should have.
And yes, I acknowledge that I’m a geek…
