Google Website Optimizer
I ran across yet another tool from Google last night-Website Optimizer. This tool is new to me but I think its been around for quite a while. From what I can tell it had been in a private beta for around a year or more. Its been open to the public for a few months now but doesn’t seem to be widely promoted.
The official name of the tool is Website Optimizer (beta) - Free landing page optimization tool. Google describes the tool like this:
Website Optimizer, Google’s free multivariate testing tool, helps online marketers increase visitor conversion rates and overall visitor satisfaction by continually testing different combinations of site content (text and images).
As you can imagine, this tool could be very useful more than just online stores. I bet it could even help me good more of my site visitors to look at more than the page they found via a search engine.
Website Optimizer is integrated inside AdWords so you’ll need to sign up for AdWords to try it out. Google also has a good presentation that gives a nice overview of the tool. You can also view an example report if you’re reluctant to sign up for an AdWords account just to see what it can do.
I’m not sure if I’ll try the Website Optimizer on my site or not just because it requires a bit of work to setup and I’m not trying to sell stuff on my site for it to matter. Nonetheless, it would be neat to see if I could improve this site with its analysis.

It’s a great tool, Matt.
The product manager for Google Website Optimizer, Tom Leung, recently spoke with us about the product. Your readers may be interested in the article here:

Chris,
Its good to hear a personal recommendation about the tool. I’m sure my readers will be interested in your interview. May I ask how you managed to land an interview with a Google Product Manager?
Thanks for sharing,
Matt
