Growing up in playing the NES and later the Genesis, the Virtual Console looked very appealing to me ever since I heard the announcement about it from Nintendo. I was very excited they included games from the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) since I had spend a lot of time playing classics such as all the Sonic series, NBA Jam, and X-Men.

I finally downloaded a couple of games for the Wii’s Virtual Console this weekend–its something I’ve being wanting to do ever since I purchased the Wii console. My first pick was Sonic 2. Sonic was a no brainier for me–I always loved that little hedgehog even though the game play isn’t that deep. There is just something about racing through levels at break neck speeds.

My second, and last download as of this writing, was Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong’s Quest. I never had the opportunity to play Donkey Kong since I didn’t own a SNES growing up. From ever review I kind find, it sounded like either Donkey Kong Country would be a great download. From what little time I’ve gotten to play it so far, I can already tell it’s going to be a fun and challenging game.

I’m looking forward to downloading more classic game titles over the coming months…something else I’m looking forward to is playing many of the great SNES games I missed out own due to never owning the SNES console.

I’m less excited about downloading N64 games because I still have that system in my possession and own copies of Mario 64, Zelda, Star Fox, etc. So its hard to justify the cost to download games that I can already play if I just take the time to hook the N64 up to my TV. However, I would love to purchase Goldeneye (if they ever release it) because in a moment of weakness I sold that game back to the store after many, many hours of great play (if you can’t tell, I still regret selling it back).
