Dave, that is a really good and interesting argument. People do overlook the best possible evidence, themselves. The fact that we exist and have knowledge of this existence does point to being Created by God and not being a random by product of evolution.

C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite authors. I haven't seen <a href="http://www.amazon.com/God-Dock-Essays-Theology-Ethics/dp/0802808689" rel="nofollow">God in the Dock</a> before, but I may have to check it out sometime.

Thanks for sharing!

Perhaps the most interesting evidence for a God is that which is most widely known.

Your own existence, and my own existence are immediate and obvious to each of us. Being the most immediate and obvious evidence, it is hence the most likely for human beings to ignore. :)

If the universe is merely material, there is no reason that any combination of matter should ever produce a being with a conscious mind. One could try to explain the outside observation of another mind as a manifestation of merely material causes; however, this breaks down when one attempts to examine himself.

The mystery is in the "observer." The one who experiences. The person "inside of you." I believe that a material universe is not sufficient to produce entities capable of subjective experience.

This evidence is, I think, a strong argument that the grounds of all being is a personal being, (i.e. a God who says I AM).

Lewis makes a similar comment in his short essay "Meditations on a Toolshed." It is available in a book of his essays, "God in the Dock."
