TiSP is Google’s newest beta project to provide free in-home wireless broadband service. This could be the best Google Service yet. How can Google afford to offer free broadband…it’s ad supported. Most users will elect to install the TiSP kit themselves but Google does offer a special installation service.
How does TiSP work? The answer to that question is the most brilliant part of the whole system. It uses existing plumbing in your house to connect to the local sewer system which houses fiber optics. Google provides a TiSP kit for the necessary parts. You simply drop the supplied sinker on one end of the cable into your toilet and give it a good old fashion flush. The other end of the fiber optic cable plugs into you wireless router that sits atop your toilet. With the fiber optic backbone, Google can offer extremely fast connections.
If you think I’m making this up as an April Fools joke then checkout Google’s TiSP site to see the facts for yourself. The FAQ and press release have some good information as well.
Please heed Google’s advice to wash your hands before surfing on your newly installed TiSP connection!

Google offering wireless broadband service isn’t too surprising. I expected Google to make a move in ISP filed for a while, especially dedicated Internet access lines. Their recent acquisitions of dark fiber and Internet hosting start-ups is indication to that. This April fool joke might be just a hint of Google’s more realistic plans for the near future!

I agree with your assessment Karl. I think Google will enter the ISP market in some form in the near future. It won’t be the first time one of their April Fools jokes became a reality. Gmail was announced on April Fools. Of course, TISP won’t be the method….that would really stink.
