Well…it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything on my blog. I know I shouldn’t make excuses but there have been some very good reasons for that. For one, I still do not have Internet access at home and for two we’ve been busy trying to buy a house. So, I thought I would write this quick update about my life while I’m in a hotel in Florida (business, not vacation) with free Internet access. I’ll enjoy having web access but I really miss my wife :(

At lot has transpired during the month of January for Lauren and myself. We almost bought a house. We went as far as negotiating the deal and completing the contract. However, the house failed the home inspection. It was a nice looking house in what appeared to be good shape. The inspection started off great. The inspector thought it was built well and electricity, ACs, etc. worked as it should. There was one minor plumbing leak…nothing that couldn’t be fixed.

Then, as the inspection continued things turned south. Under the house you could tell that a lot of water had been there at one time. The footers and foundation were exposed (in case you don’t know, that’s not a good thing and quite expensive to correct). Lots of water had seeped in under the house and caused this damage. It looked like the home owners tried to prevent more water from going under the house, but the damage had already been done. Plus, some water was still coming in when it rained (lucky for us, it was raining during the inspection so we had first hand evidence that the problem remained). Needless to say, we got out of the contract because it was contingent on the home inspection.

Within a week or so we found another house that we both really liked. We decided to make an offer on that house as well and it looks like we’re going to get it. Right now, we are working with the bank so we can close around the middle of next month.

Though we really liked the layout and all of the first house, I believe God worked things out for the best. For one, we didn’t buy a house that would probably have lots of problems down the road or crazy repair costs due to the foundation issues. For two, we like the second house better. It is a a year newer, about 150 to 200 square feet bigger, and really close to the same price. Before long, I should have some pictures to post. We’re planning on doing a little bit of painting before we move in–if we can remember we’ll do some before and after shots.

Not only am I excited about getting a new house about 30 miles closer to where I work, I’ll be in an area where I can get cable Internet access!!! Then, I really won’t have an excuse not to write more updates on this blog.
