Community Day
Today is one of two community days at my work. Community Day is part of HCA’s annual Caring for the Community Campaign. The idea behind Caring for the Community is exactly what it sound like, caring for the community by giving back not only with resources but with time. HCA realizes that it is blessed with resources and has a responsibility to give back to the local community. Thus, tomorrow I get to take the day off (with pay) and volunteer at one of the many local non-profit organizations in and around Nashville. I’m going to be painting or something at the Discovery Center at Murpfree Spring today.
Giving back to the community is an important part of life. The community doesn’t have to be limited to those who surround the place you live. You can also give back on-line. Giving back has been one of the agendas of my blog for some time now. I try to give back what little knowledge I have about web development to show my appreciation for the web community that has helped me learn what I know. I don’t know if I could afford to have a nice website if it wasn’t for all the dedicated individuals behind open source software. A big thank you goes out to all of you who help write code, document the applications, and design beautiful interfaces.
The Internet and local community are only a small part of the picture. Most importantly each of us must worship the one and only God who has provided us with our abundant resources.
