Several of my faithful readers are entrepreneurship fans and a couple of them mentioned in my survey that they would like to see me write more about it.
Innovation is one of the new buzz words floating around the corporate world. It has been said that innovation is the next level in the economy. First was manufacturing, then service. Now innovation is king. Many years ago America thrived on its ability to mass produce. As manufacturing jobs slowly moved off shore to places like China. America started thriving (and still does) on offering professional services like management, consulting, engineering, etc.
A new trend is emerging for other service related jobs being outsourced. India is a prime example of this. Many programming jobs are now based in India. Engineering is another service industry where India has gained a lot of ground. Companies can find highly, educated employees that work for tens of thousands less than comparable Americans. While saving money is good if you are the shareholder or an executive, it is not good if you are the one losing your job.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to see lots of other countries making progress and a better life for themselves. Nonetheless, as smart person must always protect against the threat of unemployment. Innovations just may provide the shield you’re looking for.
Innovation isn’t only important for employees of corporations who fear that their job may be outsourced. It is a valuable skill for everyone to have, especially entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, Innovation is not one of those you things you learn over night. It requires a new way of thinking and a constant desire to improve.
The value of innovation has often been the pride and joy of the pre-blog era entrepreneurs. Great entrepreneurs included:
In the blog arena I’m afraid too many bloggers place all their entrepreneurial hopes of making it big on adverting and affiliates. While these things can definitely bring you some big money if you have insane amounts of traffic, the chances for the average joe blogger is pretty slim. Even if you don’t want change from an advertising based revenue model into selling a product/service, you must be innovative. Why? you ask. Because innovation is the key to getting those insane amounts of traffic. The content of your site must be innovative enough to drive traffic to your site.
Innovation doesn’t have to be profound…it just has to be creative. It can be something as stupid (pick random dude) with a dumb video on You Tube to get noticed. A few good examples of innovative bloggers include Alex Tew’s Million Dollar Homepage and Ben Gray’s Ask a Minister series. So try your best to do something different to get the extra attention your site needs. Who knows you might be the next entrepreneur superstar!
I’m still accepting responses to my survey in hopes of improving this blog. So if you have a topic you would like to read more about please let me know. I would love to see a community of users start to build around my blog so that I can have more interaction with you all in the comments.
