Ebay express
Ebay Express has been out for a little while and I’ve been meaning to write a review of it for quite some time. I’m not much of a Ebay user…I search for stuff sometimes and even bid every once in a while, but I’ve yet to actually buy anything…but Ebay Express may change that.
Ebay Express claims to be an exciting new way to shop. It is the newest offering from auction giant Ebay. Ebay Express is geared to people who like the convenience of buy it now and only want to purchase from the seller’s with the highest ratings. To be a seller you must have a public profile showing feedback of 100 or more with at least 98% of it positive, list your items in a fixed price or store format, and include a photo, the item condition, and shipping costs. Also you must use paypal. These requirements provide an extra sense of security. The buy it now and shopping cart feature is also a nice addition.
One of the things I don’t like about the original Ebay was navigation and searching. Let’s just face it, Ebay isn’t going to win any design or usability awards for its main site. It is cluttered and the quality of the listings varies greatly. However, design and usability is where Ebay Express really shines. Ebay Express’s design is simple and clean (just what I like). The search results are full of AJAX goodness. It makes use of a lightbox js type technique to allow you to drill down to the content you really want. You really must see it to understand what I’m talking about. For an example go here and click on “see all”.
Ebay’s attention to design and navigation makes Ebay Express so much more fun to browse than the normal Ebay. I think Ebay Express is on the right track and I can only hope that Ebay redesigns their main site to match the look and feel of Ebay Express.
