Why I blog

24Jun06

After writing transparency in blogging, I decided I better follow my own advice. Why I blog is my attempt to be transparent. I wish I had some long, elaborate reason for blogging, but I don’t.

I blog because I love playing with new web technology and this site is a great playground. Furthermore, as a couple Lauren and I want to share some of our adventurous moments so that our family and friends can keep up with what is going on in our lives (hints the name M and L Adventures). For the web community at large, I blog as an attempt to give back. I have learned so much from other bloggers and gained so much from open source software I feel like it is my duty to provide help to others and write some tutorials. As of right now, my only significant contributions have been the Google Maps API tutorial and My Wordpress Setup (plugins, etc.). In the near future, I hope to give back by explaining how to start a blog/website.

Most importantly I enjoy the interaction I have with my readers. Though I like working on the design/coding side of the blog, this blog is pointless without readers and subscribers. So, one of my goals is to provide quality, entertaining content that will help increase my page views and feedburner subscriptions and consequently my interaction. So keep up the good work with the comments and let me know what I can do to improve my blog.

What about the money side? Let me say that I definitely don’t blog for money. However, since I take the time to write all these post, I decided it couldn’t hurt to put a few ads on the site to help cover the hosting cost and maybe even break even.
